La conférence s'intitule : «Framing Crisis: The Syrian Refugee Crisis 5 Years In».

Description : In “Framing Crisis”, Dr. Andrea Lawlor looks at the changing media framing of the Syrian refugee crisis from 2011 to present day, comparing the Canadian and US mediatization of refugees from Syria against portrayals of other refugees in the mainstream press. Using automated content analysis of five years of media data, combined with public opinion and government announcements about policy reactions to the increasing flows of migrants out of Syria, “Framing Crisis” examines the role of media framing as a probable driver of the government agenda on the subject of migration.

Bio : Andrea Lawlor (PhD, McGill University) in an Assistant Professor at King’s University College at Western University. She specializes in media and political communications (particularly around immigration and refugee policy), Canadian social policy and electoral finance reform. Her research on immigration can be found in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies and the Canadian Journal of Political Science. She has also published work on Canadian public policy and political institutions in Journal of Social Policy, Comparative and Commonwealth Politics, and Canadian Public Administration, among others. Dr. Lawlor currently holds a SSHRC Insight Development grant for her collaborative project, “Third Party Campaign Spending: Weak Policy, Weakened Engagement?” with Dr. Erin Crandall (Acadia University).

Un léger lunch sera servi.
