Description : A growing body of research highlights the prevalence of hybrid entrepreneurship, i.e. the act of simultaneously working as an entrepreneur and as an employee, in modern economies. While this phenomenon is not new, it challenges traditional views of entrepreneurship, career mindset and decision-making. This research delves into the hybrid paths of individuals from the knowledge industry via phenomenological interviews and, with the help of natural language analysis, highlights patterns of homogeneity and heterogeneity across cases while contrasting them with current knowledge of decision-making in opportunity entrepreneurship.  Adopting a system and process-based view of entrepreneurship, our analysis focuses on hybrid entrepreneurs’ actions and decisions over time while positioning them as designers who embed their changing values, identities, preferences and means within an artifact, i.e. their venture or entrepreneurial project. Building on cognitive sciences, this research highlights the interplay between cognition and action that informs the intensity with which aspiring entrepreneurs invest in their venture in a context of resources, preferences, and environmental characteristics that are always in flux.
