Après un stage postdoctoral de deux ans au New York Hospital (Weill Cornell University Medical College), la professeure Normandin entre au service de l’École de psychologie en 1993. Elle dirige des recherches subventionnées sur la validation du construit tridimensionnel d’activité mentale (ou contre-transfert) en psychothérapie, des recherches subventionnées sur l’évaluation et le traitement d’enfants abusés sexuellement, ainsi que des recherches sur le traitement de patients adolescents et adultes souffrant de troubles de la personnalité limite. Elle collabore également à des recherches sur le traitement d’enfants souffrant de troubles émotifs graves, sur l’attachement mère-enfant et plus récemment, elle s’emploie à valider un protocole d’évaluation et de traitement du trouble de la personnalité à l’adolescence. Elle dirige un groupe de travail au Personality Disorders Institute de New York qui a entrepris d’adapter le traitement focalisé sur le transfert développé par Otto F. Kernberg aux adolescents présentant un trouble de la personnalité. Elle est aussi membre du Centre de recherche interdisciplinaire sur les problèmes conjugaux et les agressions sexuelles (CRIPCAS) reconnu par le FQRSC et détient le statut de Research Fellow de la International Psychoanalytic Association. La professeure Normandin a acquis une longue expérience de l’évaluation et du traitement d’enfants et d’adolescents ainsi que d’adultes présentant des troubles graves de la personnalité. Elle en fait maintenant bénéficier les étudiants au doctorat, par l’encadrement clinique qu’elle donne au Service de consultation de l’École de psychologie. Elle a aussi participé à la construction d’instruments d’analyse en situation thérapeutique avec des enfants, au développement de manuels de traitement pour les enfants, les adolescents et les adultes ainsi qu’à la traduction et à l’adaptation de questionnaires. De 1994 à 1998, elle est syndique adjointe de l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec.
