Youssef Allami (Ph.D., psychologie clinique) est professeur adjoint à l’École de psychologie de l’Université Laval. Il a complété un stage postdoctoral au Alberta Gambling Research Institute, affilié aux Universités de Calgary et de Lethbridge. Avant de déménager en Alberta, il œuvrait en tant que psychologue clinicien au Centre de réadaptation en dépendance de Montréal, et a longuement milité pour l’accessibilité aux soins psychologiques de qualité pour la population québécoise.

Ses travaux de recherche portent sur les facteurs affectant la sévérité des problèmes associés à divers comportements potentiellement addictifs, tels que l’utilisation de substances psychoactives, dont l’alcool, ainsi que les jeux de hasard et d’argent. Ainsi, ses travaux portent sur les trajectoires d’accès aux soins et sur les différents mécanismes psychologiques sous-jacents aux dépendances, incluant l’interaction entre les comportements potentiellement addictifs et d’autres troubles mentaux. Au niveau clinique, il a suivi des formations avancées en Entretien motivationnel et en Thérapie des schémas, deux cadres conceptuels qui guident le développement de ses devis de recherche et les recommandations qui en découlent.
